Brown sugar

75 g

1 tsp

Cinnamon

1 tsp

¼ tsp

Nutmeg (optional)

¼ tsp

¼ tsp

Cloves (optional)

¼ tsp

4 Tbs

Honey

4 Tbs

1 c

Water

240 ml

Directions

1.  Preheat the oven to medium.

2.  Wash, peel (optional), and core the apples.

3.  Place the apples into a small baking dish, making sure there is just enough room for each one to sit on the bottom of the dish. Set aside.

4.  In a bowl, cream the butter.

5.  Chop the nuts and set them aside.

6.  Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove to the butter. Mix very well. Add the nuts and mix again.

7.  Fill the hole left by the core of each apple with the butter mixture.

8.  Drizzle 1 Tbs of honey over each apple.

9.  Add water to the bottom of the pan to aid the cooking and to prevent the apples from burning.

10.   Bake until tender, about 20 – 40 minutes.

Notes: A simple quick dessert that’s perfect for the fall.

Substitutions: Brown sugar/White sugar.

Variations: Adding a 1 tsp of vanilla or rum extract to the butter mixture will give extra aroma and taste. You can also replace the nutmeg and clove with allspice. Another option is to substitute a medium sized winter squash for the apples and fill the center cavity (once scraped and free of seeds) with the butter mixture. Very festive and yummy!
