Directions

1.  In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in butter with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

2.  Make a well in the center of the mixture and add the milk. Stir just until dough clings together, do not over mix.

3.  With your hands, knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10-12 strokes.

4.  Roll to a ½ inch thickness. With a greased cup or cookie cutter, cut out round biscuits and place them, side by side, in a cake pan or pie plate.

5.  Cook for 10-12 minutes in a medium-high oven or until slightly browned. Remove and let stand for 10 minutes.

 

Substitutions:  Cream of tartar/1½ tsp Lemon juice or white vinegar. Butter/Margarine.
