Directions

Instructions:

1. Place cheese between slices of bread and spread butter on the outside of the slices.

2. Heat a skillet over a medium flame, and place sandwich in frying pan. Fry until the bread is browned, then flip. Cover the skillet while you cook the second side to help melt the cheese.                                                                 

Notes: If the bread is browning too quickly and the cheese is not melting fast enough, try a lower flame. If you like a crispier sandwich spread the “insides” of your bread with butter, and toast them first (with out the cheese). Once the “insides” are golden, put the cheese between them, and proceed as directed above.

 

Variations: Add a variety of things to give a twist to this classic: smoked cheese, a slice of tomato, onion slices, crispy bacon, ham, tuna (look at the Tuna Melt* recipe), a fried egg, a little mayo or mustard, etc. For a Grilled Pizza Sandwich, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on each slice of bread, and sprinkle with salt. Then sprinkle with any of the following: basil, oregano, garlic powder, pizza or other Italian spices. Add a slice of white cheese, preferably mozzarella, and cook as above.
