1. For filling, prepare the fruit (peel, core, and slice as appropriate for the fruit you're using).

2. Place fruit in a 2-quart baking dish. Stir in the granulated sugar.

3. For topping, in medium bowl combine the oats, brown sugar, flour and ground spices.

4. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the nuts, if using.  Sprinkle topping over the fruit.                                                                   

5.  Bake in medium temperature oven for 30 - 35 minutes or until fruit is tender and the top is golden brown. If desired, serve with ice cream or whipped cream.                                                                              


Notes: For this recipe, you can use virtually any type of fruit. We recommend what ever is in season, especially apples, peaches, pears or apricots. For spices, we recommend cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or a mix.         


Variations: If you’d like, try coconut flakes instead of chopped nuts as a topping. For blueberry crisp, prepare as above, except for the filling, combine 4 Tbs sugar and 3 Tbs of flour. For cherry crisp, prepare as above, except for the filling, combine ½ c of sugar and 3 Tbs of flour.


Substitutions: Brown sugar/Granulated sugar. Oatmeal/Increase flour to ¾ c.
